purpose and description

In 2015, the Volkswagen Foundation started a call for proposals for a second round of the "Knowledge for Tomorrow" Funding Initiative. 15 candidates were pre-selected and had the chance to present and defend their research projects during a Selection Conference which took place in Hannover, 4-7 July 2016 (programme).

Besides presenting and defending their respective proposals, the candidates had the chance to attend the workshop "Leadership - A Challenge with many Aspects" conducted by Dr Dorit Batterman.

In conclusion of the conference the participants enjoyed a cultural excursion to the medieval town of Hameln, inclusive a guided tour by the world-famous Pied Piper, as well as to the neo-Gothic Schloss Marienburg.

In August 2016, after the conference, 10 candidates were finally selected to participate in the scholarship program. Another candidate was awarded an extension phase of his senior fellowship grant.
