DIE FELLOWS
Die geförderten Postdoktorandinnen und Postdoktoranden (= Fellows) decken eine große Bandbreite innerhalb der Geisteswissenschaften ab. Unsere Fellows kommen aus den Feldern der Archäologie, Geschichte, Kulturanthropologie, den Kulturwissenschaften, der Linguistik, sowie den Religions- und Sozialwissenschaften. Die Forschungsprojekte der Fellows sowie deren Lebensläufe und Kontaktdaten finden Sie unten.
FÖRDERRUNDE 2020-2023
Für den Zeitraum 2020-2023 wurden nach interner Ausschreibung weitere sieben Stipendien von der Volkswagenstiftung vergeben. Zwei davon sind Senior-Fellowships, deren Förderung drei Jahre umfasst, fünf sind zweijährige Verlängerungen einer vorherigen Senior-Fellowship Förderung.

FÖRDERRUNDE 2016-2020
Nach einer erfolgreichen Projektlaufzeit vergab die Volkswagenstiftung 2016 erneut elf Stipendien für die Geisteswissenschaften. Zehn Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten wurde eine dreijährige Förderung innerhalb einer Junior- oder Senior-Fellowship gewährt, und einem Kandidaten wurde eine zweijährige Verlängerung seines vorhergehenden Stipendiums zugesprochen. Da manche dieser 2016 begonnen Projekte pandemiebedingt noch nicht ganz abgeschlossen sind, werden sie Ihnen weiter an dieser Stelle präsentiert.

Elinaza Mjema is a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam. He completed a Bachelor and Master degrees in archaeology at the University of Dar es Salaam in 2006 and 2008 respectively, and later a PhD in Archaeology from the Frankfurt University, Germany (2015). His PhD study focused on exploring change and continuity of ancient settlements on the western coast of Indian Ocean, through the analysis of ceramics, beads and fauna remains. Currently, Mjema’s plan is to investigate–using archaeological methods–the impacts of colonial encounters on the Tanzanian coast from 16th to 19th Centuries AD.
Research Areas:
Western Indian Ocean coastal archaeology; underwater archaeology; mortuary archaeology; archaeology of Stone Age; cultural heritage management; urban archaeology. -
